In 1939, after the declaration of the Second World War, Jean-Michel Frank left France to pursue his career in Argentina. He was then commissioned to decorate the lobby of the Llao Llao Hotel in Bariloche, for which he designed the Elephant Armchair. Several examples of this model were installed there.
